Psalm 63
1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water. (NIV)
I see
the parched earth beneath my feet
Elephant-hide patterns curling
reaching for the azure sky
The merciless sun favours no-one
Dead limbs of once-desperate trees
grasp pitifully at the sky
their roots salt-encrusted and choked
The fiery desert dunes
consciously creep
covering what was once alive
with a blanket of forgottenness
Oh, how this has been home…
My yearning to escape overcome
by fear of the unknown
But I have sensed it
~ the scent of rain
drifting in on the evening sky
Turning my soul
once more to the dawn
